Calixarene (calixarene) is a kind of cyclic oligomer formed by connecting phenol units through methylene in the ortho of phenolic hydroxyl group. Because the polymer has a cavity with adjustable size, and has multiple active phenolic hydroxyl groups and a benzene ring that is prone to electrophilic substitution, it can form host-guest inclusion complexes with a variety of ions and organic molecules. It is known as the third generation host-guest macrocyclic compound after crown ether and cyclodextrin.
Preparation
1. add 10.00g(66.5mmol) p-tert-butylphenol, 3.50g(116.5mmol) paraformaldehyde, 0.08g(2mmol) sodium hydroxide and 60mL xylene into a four-mouth bottle equipped with an oil-water separator, stir, under N2 protection, heat to reflux, reflux for 4h, precipitate white solid, stand for 1h, suction filtration, the filter cake was washed twice with toluene, petroleum ether, acetone and water 20mL respectively, and dried to obtain 8.0g of crude product. Recrystallized with chloroform to obtain 6.9g of bright white crystal with melting point of 413~415 ℃ (literature value of 411~412 ℃) and 65% yield.
2. weigh 2.0g(1.5mmol) of p-tert-butyl calix [8] arene 1, 1.2g(12.7mmol) of phenol and 2.5g(18.7mmol) of anhydrous aluminum chloride, place it in a 50mL four-mouth bottle equipped with N2 protection device, add 30mL of toluene, stir, protect it with N2, raise the temperature to 45 ℃, and keep the temperature for 1 hour. Pour the mixed solution into the separatory funnel and add 50 mL0.2mol/L hydrochloric acid solution. White jelly appeared on the upper layer of the separatory funnel, washed with deionized water to neutral, evaporated the solvent, washed with methanol, suction filtration, recrystallized the crude product with chloroform to obtain 1.02g of off-white solid with 81% yield.
